The Job!! (why I've been so "missing" lately, a.k.a "sorry for the silence") Principio Página

December 31st, 2002

It's been a while since I last updated this page. But there is a (fairly) understandable reason for it: I've got a job!!. Last Friday, December 27th, I started to work in Secuware (sorry, the home page is only available in Spanish), a computer security company. My job is, mainly, to write the documentation for their products, but that means I also get to do some testing and to learn the ins and outs of them... So those of you who know me will realise I'm having a great time!!

I am deeply sorry for not having told you anything before (to you, both of my faithful readers ;), but things have moved very fast. I was offered the chance to get the job on Dec. 18th., I had an interview with one of the bosses on Dec. 23rd., and the only thing that stopped me from starting on the 26th. was the fact that my immediate boss (which in Swahili language means "he who handles the whip" ;) had taken that day off :)

I fear all this means that I am running on a tighter schedule than usual. I'll try to do my best to prevent my "disappearance" from  the sight of mortal beings, but if I delay even longer than usual (not that I've been too good in that regard lately, I know!) in contacting people, in returning phone calls and the like, I want you to know that it's not lack of interest, but lack of time. Thank you very much for your understanding!. I also want to thank all those who have cheered me on / congratulated me / have felt happy for the news.  You are very special, and I owe you more than I could tell. And I think it's about time to leave it at that, before I become too lyrical and poetical and plain unbearable ;) See you soon!.

Oh, yes! I almost forgot! ;). Have a happy and prosperous New Year 2.003!!.

An article that should be compulsory reading.... or almost ;) Principio Página

Tim O'Reilly, author and owner of the O'Reilly editorial (they specialise on technical books; theuy have an outstanding reputation for quality and variety of the topics covered; we could say they are one of the references in the modern publishing world) has written an article, called "Piracy is Progressive Taxation, and Other Thoughts on the Evolution of Online Distribution". An a book author and publisher, O'Reilly is one of the "piracy victims" about whom the different anti-piracy movements are always speaking about, one of the same persons these organizations are supposed to defend. Surprisingly, his point of view is quite different to the one we could expect, given the above. His essay, brillantly written, shows "the short-sighted philosophy and self-serving protectionism of Big Media music and film distributors" (The Inquirer dixit)  I do believe that it's an essay worth reading :)

Of course, if you don't quite feel like reading about seven pages worth of essay (even though it's clear and very well written, did I say that before?), then over at The Inquirer (O'Reilly fixes big media's wagon - Seven theses nailed to RIAA/MPAA doors - I really love the innuendo about the heresy attacking the status quo on the subtitle ;) you can find a great summary of the highlights of the article.

A new experiment. Let's see what it ends up like ;) Principio Página

Hi all! I've been wanting to make an English version of (some) of my pages for quite some time. Some people I know who don't feel too comfortable reading spanish have asked for it... and besides, I've always liked showing off ;)

Now, I don't know what will become of this. I'll try to update (or, more likely, to neglect) both pages more or less at the same time, at least when I think the content might be of widespread interest, but in case of doubt my spanish is quite better than my english ;) What does that mean? Basically, no promises. I don't know if this will go on, or for how long, or... you get the point. Of course, any suggestions or complaints or any feedback will be more than welcome (please! Is anybody there? ;) Or, to put it in another way, I'll quote what I have written on the english "error page" (I think you'll see quite a bit of it, at least for a while):

I really am sorry that the site is not finished and "ready to roll". Adding content takes time, and translating it takes even longer. I don't think that all the  content of the site will ever be translated fully into english; sometimes it makes no sense and in any case my time is limited. But I will try to do my best.

I think there is some simetry in that, as most of my "comments" or links usually are about / to articles originally in English. My spanish-speaking friends (both of them) use to complain about that. Now also  my english speaking friends (you and you, you know who you are!) can be mad at me! With a little luck, I'll manage to make everybody angry!!!

Now on a more serious tone, thanks for visiting and for your interest. I hope soon some "real" content will replace this filler page. So, check back soon!

So I'd better stop waste time making excuse, and start adding some content, wouldn't it be better? :) Hope you enjoy it!.
